What is missing in both the treatment industry and recovery is an acknowledgement and admission that the real cause of drug and alcohol addiction is a thought, a thought that tells me that I am not good enough. With this thought comes my sense of poor self esteem, resulting in a lack of self love. Both my negative self image and poor self esteem will sense of determine my deservability, what I will allow myself to have and be in my life.
I believe that until we acquire this knowledge and the wisdom that accompanies it, not much will change and things in our society will remain the same with respect to addiction. More and more individuals will continue to die as the result of drug overdoes and alcoholism. In addition, treatment programs will continue to perpetuate a lie to society by marketing that they have the solution and the high relapse rates will continue as they have in the past.
